I've put up a new episode of the Speakola podcast and it's a great one with Jules Schiller from ABC Breakfast in Adelaide, complete with a funny Tommy Lee story.
I don’t cross post many of the pieces from my Speakola newsletter, because in a general sense, the speechy stuff is over there, and the non speechy stuff is here.
But this is a particularly entertaining and funny one. It’s mainly about delivering best man speeches, a reaction to the MAFS monstrosity of a fortnight ago, and a realisation on my part that Jules’s speech for comedy mate Tony Moclair and Kate Schmitt is one of my favourite best man speeches on Speakola. He recreates the audio for the episode, and gives so many good tips on how to write and deliver an excellent speech.
I like to bring in stories from beyond the speeches, and so I asked Jules for a favourite Tony Moclair story from the period 2003-2024 — the years after Jules’ best man speech.
The one he shared is about Tommy Lee, the Mötley Crüe drummer who was on tour in the early 2000s with his follow-up band, Methods of Mayhem. Jules and Tony Moclair were charged with interviewing him on Triple M:
